Information on changes to printing support for York Graduate Students

Over the last few days there have been some concerns raised over printing support for York University graduate students. We would like to provide you with some context and background on this subject.

In 2014, the York University Graduate Student Association (YUGSA), the Libraries and Faculty of Graduate Studies agreed to phase out graduate printing support over a three year period. The agreement, which will be fully implemented this academic year, was in response to the reduced need for printing because of increasing availability of electronic journals and books and the new Electronic Theses and Dissertations submission protocol. In addition, it reflects the joint commitment of the university and students to the environment and sustainability.

In cooperation with YUGSA and other student representatives, we are continuing to identify more sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives to reduce our historical reliance on printing.

Creating a learning environment in which all students can succeed is our top priority and we are committed to working together with you and YUGSA to achieve this.
