Howard Daugherty International Graduate Award in Neotropical Conservation

Overview

The Howard Daugherty Graduate Award in Neotropical Conservation is available to graduate students, preferably doctoral candidates, at the Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University, to support their research related to neotropical conservation that is undertaken in the vicinity of the Las Nubes Biological Reserve in Costa Rica and/or that contributes to meeting the goals of the Las Nubes Project. Recipients must have a minimum “B” average (GPA 6.00), be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, residents of Ontario and must demonstrate financial need.

Value and Duration

  • Up to 3 awards of up to $10,000
    • The value and number of award(s) in any given year will depend on the rate of distribution from the endowment fund and the number of recipients selected
  • Non-renewable

Eligibility

  • Master's or doctoral
  • International students, with a student visa
  • Selection criteria includes:
    • Research related to neotropical conservation that is undertaken in the vicinity of the Las Nubes Biological Reserve in Costa Rica, and/or that contributes to meeting the goals of the Las Nubes Project
    • Academic accomplishments
    • Financial need

Graduate Program Responsibility

  • The Las Nubes Program will identify potential nominees and request the required documentation
  • The Las Nubes Program will meet prior to April 1 to identify the nominee for the following academic year
  • Programs can nominate a maximum of two files to FGS in rank order

Deadlines

  • Program nomination, with complete documentation, is due to Sandra Yiu in FGS by April 27. The Faculty of Graduate Studies Awards Committee will review nominees for eligibility
