Student Counselling, Health & Well-being (SCHW)

Student Counselling, Health & Well-being (SCHW) is a student service department within the Division of Students at York University. SCHW offers a team of healthcare professionals, peer health educators, and support staff who collaborate to provide a range of health and well-being services that foster academic success, student development, and an engaged community at York University.

Counselling Service - Glendon Campus

Our Glendon Personal Counselling Services offer psychological support to Glendon students who need help managing challenges during their university life. Members of the Glendon community come to see us because of a wide range of concerns, including but not limited to; depression, anxiety, abuse, stress, self-esteem, sexuality, and family and personal relationship issues. The counseling centre is a safe space where support is provided in a confidential and private manner. We take pride in supporting our students with diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and sexualities.

York University Psychology Clinic

YUPC is a state-of-the-art community mental health and training centre associated with the Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Health at York University. The clinic provides a range of leading-edge, effective mental health services to keep people of all ages living healthy, productive lives. Fees for service.

Student Accessibility Services (SAS)

The mission of SAS is to provide a professional, confidential, and responsive service to support the needs of students with disabilities. Our goal is that all students with disabilities at York University’s Keele campus are provided equal access to the learning and research environments, the physical campus, and access to university-related programs and activities. We are committed to the values of integrity, student-centricity, and equity and share the values of the Division of Students — respect, excellence, accountability, care, innovation, inclusion, and collaboration.

  • Assists in the transition of students with disabilities to their studies at York;
  • Facilitates and coordinates individualized support and academic accommodation for students with disabilities based on an assessment of their unique needs;
  • Promotes self-awareness, self-determination, and self-advocacy among students with disabilities so that they have an equal opportunity, as autonomously as possible, to meet the demands of university life;
  • Promotes access and awareness as a resource to all members of the university community;

The Centre for Sexual Violence Response, Support & Education (The Centre)

The Centre for Sexual Violence Response, Support & Education coordinates supports and resources for all members of the community who have experienced sexual violence, receives disclosures and complaints, facilitates safety planning, and assists survivors through the complaint process.

Health Education & Promotion

As part of SCHW, Health Education & Promotion provides York University students with person-centered health and well-being support through education, empowerment, and access while working towards supplying students with the skills to foster balanced and sustainable choices regarding their health. Our main goal is to create proactive approaches to well-being on campus.

Students can connect with us for a range of services, including training programs, workshops, and peer-to-peer consulting. We educate in the areas of mental health and well-being, physical health, nutrition, sleep, sexual health, alcohol, cannabis and other drugs.

Centre for Human Rights, Equity, and Inclusion (REI)

REI responds to concerns and complaints under provincial human rights legislation and related York policies and procedures, including but not limited to questions of discrimination on the grounds of age, race, citizenship, creed, disability (including mental health and addictions), family status, marital status, gender identity/expression, sex, and sexual orientation. REI also plays an important role in supporting the work of the Sexual Violence Response Office (SVRO) by processing matters under the Sexual Violence Policy.

Tait Mackenzie Fitness Centre

The hub of York Lions Athletics & Recreation is the 3-story Tait McKenzie Centre, a spacious, multipurpose sport and recreation facility. Central to Tait McKenzie is the 11,000-square-foot fitness centre. With 58 cardio machines, 29 sectorized machines, functional training apparatus, and free weights, the fitness centre is ideal for fitness enthusiasts of all levels, from beginners looking to improve their overall health to high-performance athletes.

Open to all current York University students, undergraduate and graduate, LSS is here to help you take charge of your own learning, build your academic skills and confidence, and foster deeper engagement with your studies. The Writing Centre

The Writing Centre seeks to contribute to the development of student's critical thinking, reading, and writing. Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP)

The Employee Family Assistance Program (EFAP) is available to all York staff, faculty, and dependents. Your EAP is a confidential service that can help solve a number of problems and challenges in your life and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Extended Graduate Student Health Benefits

York students who are also CUPE members have access to extended healthcare benefits, which can be used to access private mental health and wellness services. Other students may also have this type of access through an employer, student benefits, or coverage through a spouse or parent. Check your health benefits to determine what type of coverage you have available.

YUGSA (We Speak Student)

The YUGSA Health and Dental plan is mandatory for all full-time graduate and JD students without alternate coverage. The plan is optional for part-time students.  All full-time students will be automatically enrolled in the plan and the healthcare charge will appear in their student accounts as ‘GSA Healthcare’.  This charge is separate and in addition to tuition. Part-time students can join the plan by opting in from the website and making the payment online.

CUPE 3903 has health benefits as per the collective bargaining unit. The core health benefits plan is provided and administered through Sun Life Insurance (Policy Number: 014098). Sexual Assault Survivors’ Support Line and Leadership (SASSL)

SASSL exists to provide unbiased and non-judgmental peer support and referrals to survivors of sexual violence. Our walk-in support is available all year round during office hours. We also run educational outreach programs and information sessions on campus and in the larger community. Our support line runs 24 hours during the fall-winter semesters of the school year and can be reached at 416-650-8056.
