York is home to 27 research centres, ranging from the innovative Centre for Research on Language Contact and the renowned York Institute for Health Research to three new research centres including the Global Labour Research Centre, the York Centre for Field Robotics and Sensorium — The Centre for Digital Arts and Technology.

Knowledge mobilization helps make research useful to society. The Knowledge Mobilization Unit at York matches researchers and students with partners from the public, private and non-profit sectors to maximize the economic, social and environmental impacts of research. York leads ResearchImpact, Canada’s knowledge mobilization network which includes ten universities from across Canada.
York works closely with United Way York Region, York Region Human Services Planning Board, ventureLAB and Policy Innovation Leadership of the Ontario Public Service to seek connections with partner organizations.
Innovation York, the commercialization and industry liaison office for York University, places York research directly in the hands of industry, public sector organizations and academic researchers, putting our knowledge to work.
