Academic Petitions and Appeals

Students:

Graduate students can email petition forms, personal statements and relevant supporting documents to their Graduate Program Assistant. Information and relevant forms can be found at: gradstudies.yorku.ca/current-students/regulations/petitions-appeals/ (Schulich School of Business students and Osgoode Professional Development students should contact their program offices for petitions and appeals procedures).

Please note that Senate Executive has agreed to waive, until further notice, the requirement for students to submit an "Attending Physician’s Statement" in support of a request for deferred standing or petition. Medical certification is usually expected to accompany petitions on exceptional grounds or medical circumstances. Therefore, as a result of the waiver of required medical certification, The Faculty of Graduate Studies will be exercising leniency and flexibility in their consideration of petitions, including petition matters that are not directly related to COVID-19.

If you are having trouble collecting digital signatures then an accompanying email attachment stating "I have read and approved this submission" will be accepted.

Medical Documentation

Students are not required to submit a doctor’s note or an Attending Physician’s Statement in support of requests for deferred standing or petitions for courses impacted by the COVID-19 situation.

If you haven’t already done so, you are strongly encouraged to connect with your course instructor(s) first to make other arrangements to complete outstanding work, as a deferred standing and/or petition may not be necessary.

GPA/GPD

The Faculty of Graduate Students is prioritizing urgent winter 2020 petitions. Forms and required documentation can be emailed to gsaahc@yorku.ca and gsacadco@yorku.ca.
