Ambassador Gary Smith Award

Overview

The Ambassador Gary Smith award is given to excellent Masters or Doctoral students whose area of specialization includes an international focus, preferably relative to Canadian Foreign Policy. Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, be Ontario residents*, and demonstrate financial need.

Value and Duration

  • One award up to $3,000 (Subject to change)
  • Non-renewable

Eligibility

  • Full-time registered Master’s or doctoral York graduate student
  • Must be registered at the time of application
  • Must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents and/or protected persons who are residents of Ontario
    • Full-time registered York graduate student
    • Area of specialization includes an international focus, preferably relative to Canadian Foreign Policy. Preference given to Glendon College students studying in this area.
    • Strong academic background
    • Confirmation of Financial need

Award Period (when the award will be paid)

  • Winter term (Note that a recipient must be registered in the winter term.)

Deadlines

  • Student deadline:  December 6
  • Graduate program deadline (if applicable): December 21

How to Apply

Students must submit the following through the Award Submission Portal:

  • A completed Award Application form (.pdf).The applicant's statement section should outline how the student's research is aligned with the scope of the award.
  • Official or unofficial transcripts. A copy of grades from the student account is acceptable. Must include the last two years or all years of graduate studies.
  • And complete online Student Financial Profile

Allocation Process

  • After the Graduate Studies Awards Committee determines the recipient, the Office of the Dean, Graduate Studies will contact all applicants by e-mail and post the allocation to the successful applicant's student account
