Ambassador Gary Smith Award

Overview

The Ambassador Gary Smith award is given to excellent Masters or Doctoral students whose area of specialization includes an international focus, preferably relative to Canadian Foreign Policy. Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, be Ontario residents*, and demonstrate financial need.

Value and Duration

  • One award up to $3,000 (Subject to change)
    • The value and number of award(s) in any given year will depend on the rate of distribution from the endowment fund and the number of recipients selected
  • Non-renewable

Eligibility

  • Full-time registered Master’s or doctoral York graduate student
  • Must be registered at the time of application
  • Must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents and/or protected persons who are residents of Ontario
    • Full-time registered York graduate student
    • Area of specialization includes an international focus, preferably relative to Canadian Foreign Policy. Preference given to Glendon College students studying in this area.
    • Strong academic background
    • Confirmation of Financial need

  • Winter term (Note that a recipient must be registered in the winter term.)

Students must submit the following to their graduate program office:

Deadlines

  • Student Deadline: Submit applications to the graduate program office by December 6;
  • Graduate program deadline: Graduate programs must then submit their nominations to the Office of the Dean, Graduate Studies by December 13. If the Graduate Program is nominating more than one student, nominations must be ranked.

  • Winter Term

Allocation Process

  • After the Graduate Studies Awards Committee determines the recipient, the Office of the Dean, Graduate Studies will contact all applicants by e-mail and post the allocation to the successful applicant's student account
