Overview

The N. Sivalingam Award for Tamil Studies is intended to encourage and promote research with a substantive focus on Tamil language, history, culture, society, or the Tamil diaspora, but comparative research is also eligible. The award will provide financial support to full time graduate students at York University who have demonstrated the need to conduct fieldwork, research, or Tamil language training to complete a thesis or dissertation on such a topic. The award is open to domestic and international students enrolled in graduate studies at York University who have a grade point average of at least B+.

The N. Sivalingam Award for Tamil Studies was created in memory of the late Nagaratnam Sivalingam. Mr. Sivalingam was a pioneer and leader of the Tamil community in Canada, who dedicated his life to promoting both Tamil culture and issues of concern to the community.
