NSERC Postgraduate Scholarships and CGS Doctoral Awards (PGSD/CGSD)

Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS) and NSERC Postgraduate Scholarships (PGS) provide financial support to high calibre scholars who are engaged in master’s or doctoral programs in the natural sciences or engineering. The CGS will be offered to the top–ranked applicants at each level (master’s and doctoral) and the next tier of meritorious applicants will be offered an NSERC PGS. This support allows these scholars to fully concentrate on their studies and seek out the best research mentors in their chosen fields.

Value and Duration

  • PGS D - $21,000 per year for up to 3 years
  • CGS D - $35,000 per year for 3 years

How to Apply

Transcript Submission

*Please note that the NSERC doctoral application requires that the university upload your transcripts on your behalf. Please upload your transcripts here in the exact format you would like your transcripts to be attached to your NSERC application.

Please do not send transcripts by mail as they cannot be received while our offices are closed.

NSERC Application Submission

To submit an application, please follow the online application instructions provided by NSERC.

In addition, students submitting an NSERC doctoral application through York University are required to submit the Ontario Graduate Scholarship & Tri-Council Scholarship Information Form by October 7, 2020.

Transcripts with your complete academic record (undergraduate and graduate studies, completed and ongoing) are required. Accordingly, applicants are responsible for collecting, uploading, and confirming legibility of previous and current (including Fall 2020 even if no grades are available) post-secondary transcripts and upload them directly on to the application portal.

Due to the pandemic, NSERC has indicated for the Fall 2020 scholarship competition, they will accept unofficial transcripts if official transcripts cannot be obtained. For details, please visit this joint news release from the Tri-Council.

To access your York University unofficial transcript, please visit the Order Transcripts Online page and request for your unofficial transcript to be emailed to you.
