New graduate students are invited to attend the Graduate Student Social on Tuesday, September 3rd from 12:00–2:30pm, hosted by the Faculty of Graduate Studies. This is a great opportunity to meet colleagues from other graduate programs and to learn about a variety of academic support services available on campus to support your graduate journey. There will be plenty of food to enjoy, as well as opportunities to have your questions answered by campus partners and York University staff.
Academic Support Services present:
- Research Librarians from each Faculty;
- Teaching Commons;
- Career Centre;
- Writing Centre.
Administrative Supports present:
- Faculty of Graduate Studies (Student Affairs, Student Finances, Graduate Student Wellness Services);
- York International.
Student Union present:
- York University Graduate Students’ Association (YUGSA).

Individual graduate programs host program-specific orientation sessions at the start of each Fall term for new York graduate students. These sessions are a great opportunity to meet new colleagues, get tips on how to succeed and progress through your program, and learn about the variety of resources, services and facilities provided at York.
Please contact your Graduate Program Assistant for more details on your program-specific orientation. Program offices typically send out invitations via email in the summer.
International Graduate Students
As the designated support office for international students, York International offers crucial services and programs tailored to address the unique needs of international students, and offers new student orientation sessions each fall.
TA and ITA Orientation
All new graduate student are invited to attend a Teaching Assistant (TA) or International Teaching Assistant (ITA) Orientation session in the first week of September. During this 3 hour session you will be provided with resources and guidance to help you get started as a TA at York University.
